This is an awesome free iPhone app called QuakeFeed, which can be used for monitoring earthquakes that are occurring around the world. You can view the quakes by date, distance, or magnitude. You'll probably be amazed by how many earthquakes occur in a day, week and month even.
I used Quake Alert for two months, and witnessed the accident now, through press releases on Haiti, Chile. Random earthquake occurrences is a great geography lesson.
